- On December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister launched a scheme to distribute free tablets and smartphones to one crore students in the state.
- December 25 has been designated as ‘Good Governance Day’ since 2014, in honour of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who served as Prime Minister three times.
- The first distribution event took place at Ekana Stadium, where 60,000 students received tablets and smartphones.

UP Free Laptop Yojana Eligibility (योग्यता) Criteria :
- Residential Eligibility : Applicants must be permanent domicile of Uttar Pradesh and having a domicile supporting this residency.
- Educational Eligibility : Students must have achieved top – level marks in their 10th and 12th standard exams.
- Qualifying Boards : Eligible candidates should have completed their education under affiliation the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Board, Madarasa Board, ICSE, or CBSE board.
- Additional Educational Requirements : Those Students are enrolled in ITI or Polytechnic courses are also eligible to apply for the scheme.
- Percentage Requirements : Selection for the laptop distribution will be based on merit, with preference given to high-ranking students. Generally, applicants should have must scored above 65%-70% in their final year.
